Stormy Weather!

Fans. Brigade. It was a crazy weather weekend here in Minni-Apples! It rained, it poured. Berenice spent a lot of time under the dining room table and under the porch furniture. We had two terrific thunderstorms, and this afternoon, some tornados touched down in the metro. But in between all the storms, it could not have been more beautiful, and so we bounded outside and into the sunshine.

After Saturday's rain, we first headed out to an event (advertised with the tiniest signs ever and spotted just by chance) dubbed "Touch a Truck," tucked in the lot of a Penske truck rental or some such on the road by the post office. Indeed, one was able to touch all manner of trucks, including a St. Louis Park fire truck and a Canadian Pacific truck outfitted with wheels allowing it to drive on train tracks. Joe saw how he measured up to the wheels of the big rigs and rang the fire truck's bell. Clara looked on from the carrier.

After we'd touched our fill of trucks, we headed back home and out for a walk and ride about the neighborhood. Clara was in her red roadster, and her sun bonnet. As she rocks the sporty red roadster, so too does she rock the sun bonnet. (We have about 10 pictures of her in her sun bonnet, culled from an initial oh, say, 30. One can only post five pictures a post. Good thing, or you, Dear Readers, would have seen at least two more Bird-in-her-bonnet pictures.)

Not to be outdone, Joe embarked on our neighborhood trek on his brand new glade bike! This is, as its name would suggest, a bike on which the rider kicks off and glides, rather than pedals. Our Hero has a trike, but the pedals are too far away for him to reach comfortably, to say nothing of the fact that pedaling while steering is a bit much for your almost-three-year-old young man. He couldn't do any of it himself, and so we feared he would hear the words "bike" and "ride" and think "not fun at all" in the Era of "I Want To Do It!" Joe (as Ted had read the riders of glide bike will) knew instantly to throw his leg over the bike and start walking it forward. By the time we'd looped the neighborhood, he'd tried gliding a few times with Ted steadying him, and was steering a pretty straight course while walking it forward under his own steam.

Once we returned home, we decided to take advantage of the break in the weather and transplant some hostas from "the lilac garden," where they are being crowded by said lilac, now fully grown. Joe dashed from the yard to the garage with all manner of tool, and Julie discovered that the red roadster doubles as a handy sort of garden cart and simply rolled Clara along as she pulled dandelions from the front yard. Ted had now more finished the third of five hostas destined to relocation than the sky began to look ominois so we headed inside.

Today was more of the same beautiful and then not pattern and so we got outside when we could and headed for cover when we had, too. We were not always successful at reaching cover in time: we decided to eat lunch at Chipotle and get Berenice her food with a coupon to the dog food store that expired today at the same time. We got everyone packed in the car. Julie said, "We have the coupon, right?" No. She dashed back in for the coupon. The coupon was no where to be found. She dashed back out and into the car to ask Ted where he thought it might be, adding that it was in the pile of coupons that went with him to Target. Ted replies it's probably in his rain coat pocket. Julie dashes back in. The coupon is indeed in Ted's raincoat pocket. Julie dashed back to the porch, and sees the rain falling in sheets. But we got the coupon!

The rain had let up by the time we arrived at the dog food store and made our way to Chipotle. We put our hands on the car doors to open them and get out and--no joke--it started POURING! Hilarious! It really was. We had a good laugh over it all. And it's always fun, isn't it, to be tucked inside the car or your house when there's stormy weather outside?
