Birdie Has a "Pretty Gross" Ear
Oh Birdie Brigade, our Birdie has had a rough go of it the past few days. We neglected to tell you that she came down with pink eye the day before yesterday. It was going about the infant rooms, and though she was only spending a small bit of her day in hers until yesterday, she was felled by it anyway. Today, Julie had no more arrived at work than Assistant Director Nadine called to report that Birdie had been having a rough morning so Ms. Katie had taken her temperature and. . .101. Julie remembered that Dr. Harrington had seen fluid behind Clara's right ear drum at Birdie's 15-month well-child exam, and as Clara has had no other symptoms besides sort of generalized discomfort (she's looked like maybe five miles of bad road when she wakes up, and she won't settle for stories), Julie suspected an ear infection. Clara has also been poking at her ear. Sure enough, when Dr. Harrington put the ear-look-in-y scope in Clara's right ear, Birdie's face screwed up in wail position, the wail gathered, and then burst out (this is Birdie's signature way when she is super upset or hurt). It is, apparently, "pretty gross." She feel asleep on the way to Target to pick up the Amoxicillin she will be on for 10 days, and then again on the way home. Since Julie had already doped Birdie up in the Target parking lot, Julie decided to put Birdie straight to bed when they arrived home where she has since been sleeping soundly.
