Easter was a rager. Joe and Clara awoke to find that the Easter Bunny had come and left two baskets, one for each of them, each containing books, a ball, a stuffed dog, and other Easter sundries. Clara was, and continues to be, pretty enchanted with her ball, which has strips of iridescent shimmery paper inside, floating about in some sort of liquid. Joe is quite taken with both "puppy dogs." He quickly discovered that Clara's barks when pitched (with the requisite toddler brute, I-know-not-my-own-strength) against the floor, and his has been added to the menagerie with which he sleeps.
It turns out, the Easter Bunny also left FORTY eggs outside! Marco came over with his entourage while Clara was sleeping and he and Joe hunted them all down and then looted the loot. Turns out, the Easter Bunny knew all of the things Joe and Marco like: Band-Aids, chap sticks, stickers, "hair bands" (aka Live Strong-esque bracelets; these happened to announce to the world that the wearer loves monkeys--or Paul Frank) and fruit snacks. That Easter Bunny. What a bunny!
After the hunt, it was time for lunch. Clara woke from her morning nap to find five extra people in her house! (Not a word was breathed of the hunt. One imagines she will be right in this mix next year.) She took all the new faces in stride as she does pretty much everything. Joe and Marco followed her lead and took in stride being told they could not eat fruit snacks for lunch. (Still, the only child with any interest in the "fancy mac and cheese" was Clara.)
The morning ended, as these things perhaps will, with one child in tears and the others looking on with disinterested detachment. At least the tears were because the good times were ending. (Joe is still talking about re-staging the egg hunt. You gotta have a brother's back, especially when it comes to an Easter egg hunt.)
