In exploring this hazy concept, they have, apparently, been playing Occupations Bingo. One night, on the way home, Joe excitedly announced that he'd won "FLAMINGO!!!!!" What? "Yeah, we had mingo night!" Huh. Several exploratory questions did not elicit anything helpful in doping out what this could all mean, and Julie remembered just in the nick of time before Joe gave up in frustration, that the "What I Did Today" board had included a mention of Occupations Bingo. This, together with Joe's mention of "you got to get the star," allowed Julie to translate the above to Joe had won bingo and they had played bingo night.
Ms. Kristin reports that Joe did indeed win the first round. He had to be introduced to the idea of calling out "Bingo!" at that point, but he reportedly took to it with gusto. Ms. Kristin also reports that al the kids love Mingo Night.
Isn't the detective work of parenting young children fun? I say this in response to both the Mingo Night post and the sick Birdy post!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, your father's occupation (everyone knew what mothers did) was a frequent question. My Dad always told us to answer that he was an executive (which he was). You can imagine how good of an understanding I had of this occupation. I can still remember how puzzled I was by this answer. But what do you do???? Grandpa Tom
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, I gaily told everyone that my mom "sold drugs." I think I had heard the word "pharmaceuticals," but I didn't know it well enough to toss around in casual conversation. Thank goodness my dad "sold copiers"!

We have a running joke here, from when Nick was small:
ReplyDeleteWhat did you do at work today, Mom?
Answer: I typed on the computer, I talked to some people on the phone, I read some emails!
This answer works EVERY DAY!
