Hat Antics

Birdie Brigade! As we have reported here before, Birdie is most taken with all things hat. Putting it on, taking it off, hanging it up, carting it around--it's all a gas. Taking it off is easy, but we can report that she is now rather adept at putting it on. She may achieve more of a Seattle-grunge circa 1987 tilt that is not quite purposeful, and the bird may be to the side or backward, but it's on! She was practicing this weekend, and was so pleased with herself, she gleefully tore around "the track" from the kitchen to the dining room to the living room to the hallway, back to the kitchen. Tonight, in the car on the way home, she took off her hat and cried out "Uh oh!" It was all a ploy to see if we would say "Uh oh!" back, which of course, we did. Birdie giggled. No doubt she thinks we're easily fooled.

Her teacher Ms. Katie reports that when they are outside, sometimes, Clara doesn't quite know what to do with the hat, which of course impedes her ability to twirl the beginnings of her hair while she sucks her fingers. We're told she gets rather frustrated. (Imagine!) Ww saw some evidence of this frustration this evening when Birdie took a header on the walkway from the garage to the front of the house on our way in this evening. Julie saw it all go down and got to Birdie just as her delayed reaction kicked in. Birdie was immediately struggling to pull. Her. Hat. OFF! Julie helped her out, but then Birdie ended up sucking her fingers and twirling Julie's hair!

You can't see it in these pictures, but Birdie's shirt says "one of a kind." That she is, Brigade. That she is.
