Bird Bath

Baby Bird had her first bath yesterday (excluding the one she had in the hospital)! She took it in stride, wailing only once of twice. Ted put her towel in the dryer so it was all toasty warm for her after she was done with her kitchen spa experience.

I Wanna Be Just Like You

Fans, fans, fans. What can we say except that moments before this charming (we call 'em like we see 'em!) photo was taken, Joe saw Berenice licking her paws and proceeded to attempt to lick his own feet. Ted reports that a few days ago, Joe was spotted rubbing his head along the couch after eating which is what Berenice does when she finishes her meal each evening. This, Dear Readers, is but one reason why our couch is often seen pictured draped in blankets. So there you have it: Joe is imitating everyone, including the dogs.

But, the night before last, Julie said to Joe, "I love you, Palo." He parroted right back, "I love you, Palo."

Hey Look! My Eyes Are Open!

It has been happening more and more! The Sleepy Bird is waking up, though she is still a very cool customer. In this particular photo, she is struggling through another round of hiccups before heading off to nurse. Our Girl is a hiccupper. In the hospital and hew first few nights home, she could be counted on for a good round of hiccups at about ten o'clock. We "rub 'em out." At least, this is what Julie says to Clara as she rubs her back which in reality does nothing, but it makes at least one of them feel better.

(Clara would like our readers to know that her nails are in fact filed down to a respectable-un-talon-like length as befitting a two-week old newborn, despite what the presence of the scratch on her face in this picture would suggest.)

Mother's Day Walk

As we noted, it was warmer than anticipated, and sunny. As we're still working on taming Clara Jane's jaundice, we set off on a walk in the morning sun.

Joe was flashing his gang sign (one ear out of hat) in case he saw any of his homies. And doesn't he look like a toughie?

Mother's Day*

It was great, Fans. Ted made french toast, and got raspberries to boot. And let's just put it out there: Joe is a berry monger. He coped well, though, upon being told that berries were all gone. (And given that he has a bit of a runny nose and some ear discharge, this is no small feet. Daycare reported Friday that he was cheerful but sensitive at times. Ted commented that this could be Joe's boat name if he had a boat; Julie thought this was hilarious.) We went to the bookstore as Mother's Day tradition dictates, where Julie got two books. Lunch at Punch next door and then everyone took a nap when we got home. Joe in his crib, Ted and Raleigh on the couch, Julie and Clara in the chair. Berenice was on the porch? Or was she also on the couch? This author was asleep so she can't say for sure. It as warmer than expected so post-nap, we were all on the porch.

This Mother's Day brought to you by Ted, Joe, Clara, and the number 4.

*The smile on Joe's face in this picture represents his first on command smile! Ted said "Say cheese!" and Joe did, and laughed!
