At the Zoo
At the Zoo, the book, and thus, the song, has been enjoying a renaissance around Raleigh House. Simon and Garfunkel enthusiasts may recall that, toward the end of this lesser-known tune, there is the line "What a gas!" Clara gets into the act by crying out "Gas!" with much glee when we reach this page. Joe, for his part, is trying to nail the whole thing. In this clip, you can hear him practicing (while sitting on the toilet--which is why what you'll see is the bathroom shelf; it's more about what you hear of course).

I did not know there was a book called At The Zoo. Bookends - one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel albums. Now I want to listen to it, so I'll drag out my record tonight. Someday when you are in NYC you'll have to all take that fine and fancy ramble to Central Park. I'm sure Ted went at some time in his past.

In At the Zoo, one of the illustrations has a Paul Simon strumming a guitar on a bench. You may also be interested to know that the rum, of which the zookeeper is very fond in the song, in the book, is Rum, the Beaver. We always sing the book, instead of read it, replete with humming at the appropriate parts. (My--Julie's--first CD ever was Simon and Garfunkel's Collected Works, which is how I came to know At the Zoo first.)
